"Do what thou wilt." Written in the early twentieth century, the
four books contained within this collection make up one of the most
complete and groundbreaking works on the practice of magick ever
written. They are considered to be the masterpiece of occultist,
magician and philosopher Aleister Crowley and the core texts for
the religion of Thelema. Their influence on alternative western
thought and philosophy cannot be exaggerated. Also known as Book
Four, or Liber ABA, the four parts bring together many rituals,
received texts, theorems and unequalled insights into the practice
of magick, culminating in The Book of the Law, the central, sacred
text dictated to Crowley by a preternatural entity. Anyone
interested in yoga, ceremonial magic, esoteric thought, invocation,
divination and beyond, or those looking to delve into the
fascinating, playful and illuminating writings of a unique man,
will find inspiration. For the first time, one of the world's
leading experts on Western esoteric traditions and magic, Dr.
Stephen Skinner, introduces the text, sharing his insights into
Crowley's take on yoga, ceremonial magick and Thelema. His long
involvement with magick, both as an academic and as a practitioner,
enabled Dr. Skinner to highlight the differences between the
psychological and the spirit-orientated approaches to magick, and
to show how that dilemma shaped Crowley's practice and his founding
of Thelema, enlightening the reader to many previously unknown
connections.
Provides a clear and detailed account of the preparations and
precautions necessary for the successful evocation of 72 spirits,
which are described in detail. Mathers' introduction discusses the
numerous manuscripts from which he made this translation
This revised and expanded second edition brings together the
uncollected short fiction of the poet, writer and religious
philosopher Aleister Crowley (1875-1947). Of the fifty-four stories
in the present volume, only thirty-five were published in his
lifetime. Most of the rest appear in this collection for the first
time. Crowley was a successful critic, editor and author of fiction
from 1908 to 1922. Like their author, his stories are fun, smart,
witty, thought-provoking and sometimes unsettling. They are set in
places in which he had lived, and knew well: Belle Epoque Paris,
Edwardian London, pre-revolutionary Russia and America during the
First World War. The title story The Drug stands as one of the
first accounts - if not the first - of a psychedelic experience.
His Black and Silver is a knowing early noir discovery that
anticipates an entire genre. Atlantis is a masterpiece of occult
fantasy that can stand with Samuel Butler's Erewhon. Frank Harris
considered The Testament of Magdalen Blair the most terrifying tale
ever written. This second edition adds several additional stories,
including the Qabalistic allegory Ambrosii Magi Hortus Rosarum,
featuring the author's previously unpublished annotations.
Extensive editorial end-notes give full details about the stories.
Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. This
oft-misunderstood phrase, which forms the basis for Crowleys
practise of Magick, is found in The Book of the Law. Dictated to
Crowley in Cairo on three successive days in April 1904, it is the
sourcebook for Crowley students and occultist in general. This
deluxe edition features new scans of the original manuscript, with
Crowleys notes and annotations found in a later draft of the work.
The magnificent Crowley Thoth Tarot deck contains kabbalistic and
astrological attributions described in Aleister Crowley's The Book
of Thoth.
Goetia [refers to] all the operations of that Magick which deals
with gross, malignant or unenlightened forces. Goetia is sometimes
thought of as a wild card, something that can get out of control,
something which expresses the operator's lower desires to control
others and improve his own personal life. And, in fact, this
potential loss of control, this danger, the desire for self
improvement and great power is exactly what attracts many people to
Goetia while horrifying and repelling others. Crowley's "Goetia" is
brought to life with vivid illustrations of the demons. Commentary
by DuQuette and Hyatt bring the ancient arts into the modern day.
This edition includes Liber 777, Gematria (from Equinox Volume 1,
Number 5), and Sepher Sephiroth (from Equinox Volume 1, Number 8).
The Book Of Thoth is now a classic in the field. It is used by
students of the Golden Dawn as well as those who want to understand
Crowley's tarot. This is the definitive study of the Egyptian tarot
and is used as a key to all Western mystery disciplines. Color
plates of eight cards are also included.
This book originally appeared in Crowley's larger volume, The
Equinox, in 1912. In is a complete and thorough study of all the
cards of the tarot. Each is presented with a detailed description
that is highly useful for those who read the cards or want to
understand the symbolism better. Includes sections on the
thirty-six decans and their relationship to the planets and days of
the week, a special chart of the four characteristics of the court
cards, how to determine if a card is strong or weak, and reveals a
method of divination in the back that is used by Crowley's
students. This is a concise handbook recommended to those serious
about understanding the tarot.
